oo1 - Attempt to be social ... failed

[He stares blanking into the screen for a moment, then looks like he's addressing someone off-screen.]

There. It works just fine. I can turn it off now.

[Anyone who has met Riku, but not Rep, feel free to mistake them as doppelgangers, brothers, twins, whatever. ♥]

[He really can't answer that; after all, who would believe him that he might be the Nobody of part of his best friend? But, what Axel had said... there hadn't been much of why aside for collecting Keyblade wielders.

It was all too confusing!]
...What happened there, if you don't mind me asking?

[That right there... He didn't know Rep very well, but he was already becoming a friend. Since he met Sora and Naminé here before, well... he was more inclined to believe him over Xemnas who he just realized dodged the more important questions...]

If he's hurt you guys in any way- [He looks up, all that confusion and hurt showing in his eyes. '-he's no ally of mine if he's hurt my friends.']

[That look from Ven startles him a little. He didn't really expect Ven to phrase it like that, let alone imply he'd choose their happiness over that other guy's]

I told you I don't remember much of it. [And had they just met, that's all Ven would've gotten. Yet he'd started proving his trust, so that was enough for Rep to continue.]

What I do know, though... They all knew I was a replica - the organization members, that is - and still they let me believe I was real. That I was Riku. They did something to my memories, and let me fight Sora because I thought it would protect Naminé. I don't know why - what their plans were. That guy didn't say, and I don't really care, because I have no interest in fulfilling them anyway.

In other words... that's why I don't have my own name, either.

[Ven listens quietly, fists clenching tight in his lap on either side of the SFC. What Rep could remember; all of it--it sounded far too similar to what happened with his memories. And unknowing plans? That set off a few alarm bells.]

Well, we're going to change that. [He smiled faintly, motioning for Rep to take a seat. Maybe it was time he shared a bit of his own story...] If he's anything like either of them... Well, I learned the hard way that not knowing what their plans are can lead to ruin. I didn't know his plans until it was too late to change "fate."

[-but at least, in the end... he won.]

[He debates for a bit, then finally decides to sit down too, looking down at first.] I did say I was used like a puppet... [He looks over at Ven.] Makes sense then that you said you were a tool. Do you think part of that was because of your lost memories too? Because that would mean...

[He looks down too, trying to think back and coming up with either nothing or painful static other than that one memory... The one he wished never happened yet did anyway.]

...We're the same, even though in my case I'm the original. [He looks up ahead for a moment before turning to meet the other's gaze.] I don't know if it's because of them... or if it just made it easier. The only thing I can remember before meeting my friends was the reason I almost-

[...died.]

[Ven's emphasis was understandable, but still a little painful for Rep to hear. He wasn't nearly as intuitive as Ven, so he couldn't complete that thought, but he nodded all the same.]

At least you have that much. Naminé said she could repair my memories, but in order to do that she'd have to make me forget everything after the first time it happened. [He shook his head a little.] No way I could go through that again.

Even though I know I have years of memories that aren't mine, it still feels like that long. That's why it's so hard... to think of myself as anything but 'Riku.'

[And he's sorry it does hurt his friend, but he's certainly glad that the thought was dropped. Hearing Rep's explanation, though... it tugged at his heartstrings a bit. He gives him a faint, sad smile.]

You know... I envy you. When I gained someone else's memories the last time I was here- [He shakes his head.] -I couldn't take it. It was just one mess after another...

[Ven's silent for a while, thinking back on those days... He'd been an idiot, chasing after his darkness like that; letting himself get burned like he had. What good was it if he would just end up hurt or dead?]

No matter how much you look like someone, even if you have copies of their memories... you're still your own person. Vanitas taught me that much, at least.

[Rep's first thought was You envy me? But then Ven explains, and it still confuses Rep how on earth Ven could be envious about anything involving him... It reminds him of what Lea said: that he had a spine and used it. He's a little off-balance from thinking there's anything positive about him.

Unfortunately, not knowing who Vanitas is to Ven lessens the impact of Ven's statement a little. Even then, he can't help but remain unsure of the sentiment.]

... How?

[So much in one little word.]
